It’s just about that time again, time to think about closing out your 2018 payroll. If you did your Fall cleanup, closing payroll will be a breeze.  Be sure you have updated all your employees’ statuses, verified all their information is correct and make sure no further 2018 adjustments/fixes need to be made.

The KEY thing to remember is:

DO NOT DO ANY PAYROLL FOR 2019 UNTIL YOU HAVE CLOSED YOUR 2018 PAYROLL…….

What does that mean? That means any checks dated in 2018 need to be done prior to closing your payroll. If the Payroll check is dated in 2019, then you cannot enter those in until you closed 2018 Payroll.

REMEMBER:  It is based on check date, not dates worked.  So if they worked the last few days of 2018 but the check is dated 2019, then that check goes into the 2019 Payroll year which means you cannot enter it in until 2018 is closed.
